Privacy Policy

Known Ground is built around private travel memory. This policy explains what information the app uses and how it is handled.

Effective date: June 10, 2026

Overview

Known Ground helps you keep a private map of trips, places, photos, notes, and routes. The app does not include third-party advertising, public social feeds, or third-party tracking.

Most Known Ground information is created by you, stored on your device, and, when you enable iCloud, synced through your private iCloud account using Apple services.

Information Known Ground Uses

Location

Known Ground uses location to show where you are, draw explored routes, associate trips and visits with places, and connect photos to where they were taken. Location access is controlled by iOS permission settings.

Photos and Camera

Known Ground can read photo metadata, such as date and location, for photos you choose to import or view in the app. The app can also save photos you take in the app so they can appear as photo memories.

Health and Fitness

If you grant permission, Known Ground can read workout and workout route data from Apple Health so walks, runs, hikes, and rides can appear on your travel map. The Apple Watch app can also save outdoor walking workout data when you choose to record a walk.

User Content

You may create trips, saved places, visit memories, notes, photo attachments, and related records in the app. This content is used to provide app functionality.

Diagnostics

Known Ground includes user-initiated diagnostic exports for troubleshooting. These reports are designed to avoid private note bodies, photos, exact coordinates, raw addresses, and raw place names. You choose whether to share a diagnostic export.

How Information Is Used

Known Ground uses information for app functionality, including mapping, trip coverage, saved places, photo memories, route display, search, Spotlight handoff, diagnostics, sync, and Apple Watch features.

Known Ground does not use your information for third-party advertising or to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.

Storage and Sync

Known Ground stores app data on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, app data may be stored in your private iCloud container and synced between your devices through Apple iCloud services.

Apple's own terms and privacy policies apply to Apple services such as iCloud, HealthKit, Photos, MapKit, Spotlight, and App Intents.

Sharing

Known Ground does not sell your data. The app does not provide public social sharing or a public profile.

You may choose to share exported diagnostics, screenshots, maps, or other content using system share sheets. When you share information, it is handled by the destination you choose.

Your Choices

You can control Known Ground permissions in iOS Settings, including Location, Photos, Camera, Motion, Health, and notifications. You can also manage iCloud availability from your Apple account and device settings.

You can delete app data from within the app where supported, or by removing the app and associated data from your device.

Children

Known Ground is not directed to children and is not intended for use as a children's app.
